In the past 10 years more and more countries have purchased the Israeli techknowledge for the iron dome. This is a defensive system which operates like a shield across the country and protects it from enemy rockets, missiles and drone attack. The system is designed to counter short-range rockets and 155 mm artillery shells with a range of up to 70 kilometres. According to its manufacturer, the Iron Dome will operate day and night, under adverse weather conditions, and can respond to multiple threats simultaneously. The Iron Dome has three central components, firstly the Detection & Tracking Radar which can detect and track potential targets at ranges of 4–70 km. Then a Battle Management & Weapon Control (BMC), that is a management computer which determines whether the incoming rocket or missile will land in an inhabited area. If the projectile likely poses no threat to life or infrastructure, it is disregarded, and an interceptor is conserved. Lastly a Missile Firing Unit, it is the interceptor launcher, and the unit launches the Tamir interceptor missile, equipped with electro-optic sensors and several steering fins for high maneuverability. A typical Iron Dome battery has 3–4 launchers which contains up to 20 missiles per launcher. All this correlates to a dome of protection for the people under it. The dome has a high success rate of around 90% as seen by the lack of Israeli casualties. Many believe that the Iron Dome is the most-effective, and the most-tested missile shield the world has ever seen. The three components working together act as sophisticated shield.
In the book of second Samuel chapter 22:36 we read, ‘Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation:’. The salvation which the Lord Jesus came to bring is not only salvation at last, just escaping hell, but it is salvation now, and salvation in everything. Salvation does not only mean victory at last, but it is like a broad shining shield, given to us in the midst of the battle. It comes between us and the poisoned arrows and sharp sword thrusts of the enemy. It is a shield not only to keep us from death, but to keep us from being hurt and wounded. It is the shield which the captain, the Lord Jesus, has given us to use now, as well as the crown which he will give when the warfare is ended. If you have come to the Lord Jesus to be saved, he does not merely say he will save you, but that you are saved. This is how you are to use the shield – believe it, and be sure of it, because you have his word for it. The word of God reminds us in Proverbs chapter 30 verse 5 ‘Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.’ So then, when a temptation comes, tell the enemy that he has nothing to do with you, for you are saved. That you belong to Jesus, and not to him. Did Christ ever let any find themselves deceived and mistaken, who looked up in faith and confidence to him, trusting in his great salvation? Never! And never will you find this shield of his salvation fail to cover you completely. Satan himself cannot touch you when you are behind this shield! It gives 100% protection to all who trust in it. The Iron Dome may be the most-effective, and the most-tested missile shield the world has ever seen. However, when it comes to shielding us spiritually nothing compares to the shield of our salvation.
