Tears

How heart breaking it is to see the evil and wickedness there is in the world, from wars in various countries to nurses murdering new-born babies in England. When you watch the news you could sit and cry at the cruelty. This sadness causes people to shed tears, but what are tears? There are various components that make up tears. Firstly they are created in lacrimal glands in the upper outside corners of your eyes. They are mostly salt and water however the tear film has 3 different layers: The oily outer layer keeps tears from drying up too quickly and makes the surface of the eyes smooth. The watery middle layer keeps the eyes wet and nourishes the eye tissue keeping bacteria away, and protects the cornea. The inner mucus layer helps the tear film stick to the surface of the eyes. Your tears have a similar structure to saliva. They are mostly made of water, but they also contain salt, fatty oils, and over 1,500 different proteins, and electrolytes which include: sodium, which gives tears their characteristic salty taste, bicarbonate, chloride, potassium and low levels of magnesium and calcium. This fluid moves across your eyes as you blink and is mixed with oil from your meibomian glands to form your tears. Secondly, tears that have been flushed from your eyes drain away and into your tear ducts that empty into the back of your nose. That’s why you might feel stuffy if you’ve been crying. Your excess tears are flowing faster than they usually would into the back of your nose and draining into your throat. Nevertheless not all tears are the same, you have three different types of tears. There are basal tears, these are always in your eyes to protect from debris and keep them lubricated and nourished. Then there are reflex tears, these form when your eyes are exposed to irritants, such as smoke and onion fumes. Lastly emotional tears, these are produced when you are sad, happy, or feeling other intense emotions. According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), you make 15 to 30 gallons of tears every year, and you will not run out of tears.

However, these tears are a natural way to show our emotions, whether they are happy or sad tears. Sadness is something that can seep into the heart and soul of a person. It can affect their mental as well as physical wellbeing, someone who is deeply sad, that sadness will show on their countenance, and tears are the physical sign of the malady. In the book of Revelations, the last book of the Bible chapter 21 verse 4 we read some beautiful words, ‘And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.’ Imagine a world with no tears and no sadness to cause it. That is what heaven will be like. A wonderful place of peace and serenity because the living God had taken away all the reasons for tears. The turmoil and destruction of the world will not mar this lovely place. Heaven is the place where God lives, and he will not permit tears and sadness in his presence. He says I will wipe them away and remove the reasons for them. That sounds excellent but how do people get to heaven? They have to turn to Jesus Christ and he will save. The book of Matthew chapter 11 verse 28 says, ‘Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.’ Even though in this present world tears are necessary one day you can have them taken away by Jesus Christ.
