I want to share my experience. I applied as a Skilled independent PR from my home country. Started the process, did all the steps . Was assessed by Engineers Australia. it probably took me about 1.5 years to complete the whole process from beginning to End. I still remember when I received the approval letter and sent later my family passports to the Australian Embassy to get the PR stamp – it was about Christmas time. Your have about a year to get into the Country. So we did, for me and my Family- we had never been to Australia before deciding to move. My family was surprised when I told them I was moving. It was a great experience, arriving as PR has so many benefits as you touch the ground. I even applied for a request to be picked up and taken to the place I would live. A volunteer couple was at the airport and a sign at the gate with my name. I have met the most wonderful people and Australians were there to give you a helping hand. I will never forget the day an Old Aussie letter knocked on my door noticing we were new to the country – she was and has been like my extended family. Without knowing us – she was there asking if we needed anything and helping us out to this day. It’s something I will never forget. Government, definitely kudos to them – many benefits. My son was born in Adelaide – hospital visits for my wife were nice and always full of attention, I can give you more examples. The place I worked expanded to the US so I have been here working for some time. If you are planning on applying, don’t hesitate- you will not regret it. (Quora)
